Sweet little newborns are quickly becoming one of my favorite things to photograph! I got to spend a cloudy morning with Baby J and his parents in their darling Alameda home. He was wide eyed and ready to strike some poses, and hang with his fur sister (who was SO excited about her new little brother and also very excited about me being there too). James’s mama is a photographer, so it was an even bigger treat to be chosen by them to take the first photos of all of them together. Well, the first professional photos at least, surely there have been many iphone pictures taken already.
Taking baby J’s newborn photos was such a treat and even though he was awake he totally went with the flow of the session. Not to mention the fact that both his parents were total naturals and he’s so lucky to have them to raise him up strong! They were so welcoming to me and kindly moved heavy furniture out of the way so that we could shoot in the optimal spaces. 😉 I’m hoping that I get to travel out to that area again to take some more Alameda newborn photos with more sweet little ones that have just arrived earth side.
Their home was filled with beautiful natural light, but the cloudy morning was hindering some of it from spilling in. I used some of Christy’s studio lighting that she had on hand and I’m really happy with how the images turned out! I haven’t used a lot of studio lighting in my photography, and especially not when shooting film. But the images turned out so good I’m thinking of getting some studio lighting for myself to use in situations where lighting isn’t as optimal as it could be.
Christy chose amazing outfits for all of them to wear for their photos. Her darling free people dress was the perfect neutral addition and it looked so comfy. I also loved that James just wore a little diaper cover, there’s just something about keeping things simple for photos. And of course we can’t forget dad, his blue shirt helped to keep things neutral while still adding a little pop of color. Their wardrobe really complimented their in-home newborn session. It was laid-back and really photographed beautifully.
Be sure to check out Christy’s photography work, she’s an amazing photographer and it was such an honor to be chosen by her to take their newborn photos!
