Very often I get asked when the best time to take maternity photos is. I always recommend that clients schedule their Bay Area Maternity Photos for somewhere around 32 weeks. This seems to be a really sweet spot. You’re far enough along to have a gorgeous baby bump. Especially if it’s your first babe and you didn’t start showing right away. But you’re not too far along where we’re risking you going into labor and missing your maternity photos, or you’re not feeling your absolute best.

This is always a ballpark recommendation, I’ve taken maternity photos around 30 weeks and they were beautiful and great. I’ve shot maternity photos around 38 or 39 weeks, and those were gorgeous too. But if you’re planning far enough in advance to be able to book your ideal photographer. Then your schedule is most likely pretty open, so around 32 weeks is really the optimal timing.

With that said, I’ll add in a little tidbit on the best time to book your maternity photographer. Clients typically contact me sometime in the second trimester to book their maternity session. This is far enough in advance where I still have availability. But please don’t shy away if you’re looking for something last minute. I totally understand that a baby brain is a real thing (I’ve been there twice!). And you don’t always get around things when you intend to. I do occasionally have last-minute openings for sessions like this.
