I think I will always remember this darling family photography session. For multiple reasons, of course. I will definitely remember it because it was so gorgeous. And it just made this Walnut Creek family photographer swoon. But I also remember it because of the circumstances surrounding this session. Let me give you a little bit of a backstory.

You see, last fall, when the session took place, the bay area was in the middle of a scorching heat wave. We’re talking days upon days where it was over 115°F. Not only that but it was also Labor Day weekend. My little family actually went and stayed at my parents house. They were out of town so we took advantage of their solar… aka the free AC. And a change of pace for our kids because we were stuck inside for so long. In the midst of all that, I had this session scheduled and didn’t want to have to reschedule it if not necessary. So I asked Rachel if she would be OK with doing an early morning session, to beat the heat as well as the crowds at the local lake. She was totally down for it and I was so thrilled.

Let me tell you a little secret:  I am not a morning person at all. I really wish that I was because the morning time is so magical. But I just have the hardest time waking up early in the morning. But one thing that is exciting to wake up early for is a beautiful lakeside photo session. And when I arrived at the lake that morning, I knew it was totally worth the early alarm clock that I set. Everyone talks about the afternoon golden hour. But I think that morning golden hour really is something much more special. It’s quiet and Quaint and the morning light is such a beautiful backdrop.

We spent most of their sessions under a big oak tree right by the side of the lake, and the photos turned out so gorgeous. I seriously am still swooning over them. And i’m dreaming of waking up early for another morning session in the near future!
