When is the best time to take first family photos, you may be asking. I’m not talking about newborn photos, I’m talking about those first photos of all of you as a family when your baby is a little bit older. I do believe there is a sweet spot for those precious first family photos. And if you take them around a certain age range they can be oh so adorable. (Okay, your family photos are always adorable, but they will be extra adorable!) But keep on reading for some advice from this SF Bay Area Family Photographer.

Over the years I have photographed kids and babies of all different ages. From little newborns who have no say in things, to two year olds with big opinions. To elementary children who are great listeners! No matter the age, your family photos always end up turning out cute and fun. But I will say that there are some ages that are easier to photograph than others.

So, if you’re planning on taking some of those first family photos, and you have a little one that is less than a year old then listen up. Or maybe you want to forgo newborn photos, they’re just not your thing. But you want to know some advice on when to schedule some family photos.

I feel like the sweet spot for those first family photos is around 9 months old or so. You see, this age is golden. Your little one is likely sitting on their own and smiling up a storm. But they aren’t super mobile yet, and are likely still content to sit in your lap or be held. I know that a lot of these things can depend on the temperament of your child. But overall this rings true

for most children. So if you want to take some adorable and wonderful family photos sometimes in that first year of life, this is a great time to plan to do them!
