Sometimes when I get film scans back from a session as a Livermore Family Photographer, I get all the feelings. I see the scans from Photovision and instantly I get warm and fuzzy inside. Because they are just that beautiful!! Even if the pictures I initially see are tiny thumbnails that I quickly scroll through, because I need to see ALL of them right that instant. The feeling is still there! It doesn’t always happen, but when it does, man is it good! Well, you bet that happened when I got these family photos back. The lighting, the smiles, the interactions, it all came together so perfectly.
In the fall months it can be hard to find a location that is green. All of our hills turn golden instantly once the weather warms to over 80 degrees. But there’s a secret little spot I know of that is watered on the regular, so even when it’s scorching hot outside you can guarantee to get a little greenery. We headed to this spot and it was so amazing. The late summer sun was setting farther and further into the sky as their session rolled on and those final few pictures are some of my favorites!
I experimented with a little different posing and angels for these family photos and I am so glad I did. At every session i’m getting more and more comfortable with stepping away from my shot list and just going with the flow. Giving myself that freedom has opened up so many opportunities to create more art driven images. I think my clients are really happy with the balance too. They still get that beautiful smiling at the camera image, but the majority of their session isn’t spent looking in my direction. Instead it’s spent the way their days usually are spent, with each other. I can’t wait to capture more sessions like this one, they just fill me up so much in the best way possible!
