Hello July! It’s crazy to think that July is already here, which means that we’re already halfway through 2020! It’s been a different year for all of us, and obviously the year has had its own ups and downs. Although looking back I think a lot of people might think only about the bad things that have taken place, there have been so many amazing things that have happened too! One of those is about to happen soon for me and my family! I’m about to have our second little babe!
It’s been a tricky year of being a Oakland Newborn Photographer to say the least. For the better part of this year I won’t be working- between COVID-19 and it’s restrictions and the maternity leave i’m about to take. Although at first I was hesitant to be taking a maternity leave right when things have started to get somewhat back to “normal” in my business, now I am excited! I know that when I get back from leave there will be plenty of opportunities to be a newborn photographer again, and that this time away is crucial to my and my family.
Today is my first official day of maternity leave, woohoo! I have my out of office auto response email set, and all my latest sessions have been delivered to clients. I’ve also prepped and pre-scheduled blog posts for the duration of my time off, as well as planned instagram posts as well. Doing these little things ahead of time helps me to truly be able to step back and enjoy some time off!
To be honest, I didn’t do maternity leave well with my first, I was checking my email days after she was born, although I didn’t respond to any. This time my goal is to really do it better! To truly turn off my email and log out of my social media accounts (since I primarily use those for business instead of personal use). My mindset going in is that I probably will lose opportunities for sessions since i’m going to be away, but that it’s worth it in the end to truly be present in those first weeks of having a newborn.
Hopefully i’ll be able to send you all sorts of tips and tricks after I finish maternity leave this time around. And until then, keep checking back for fresh content on the blog and know i’ll be back in September to see all your pretty faces and families again!
