One of my favorite ways to help clients prepare for their session with me is to provide them with wardrobe assistance! What you wear in your photos can really have an effect on the overall look and feel of the final photos. There’s types of clothes and colors that photograph really well, and things that are better saved for everyday wear. Being an experienced Oakland Family photographer, i’m always so excited to help you choose outfits for your session. Usually as a client you can let me know your favorite places to shop. I’ll then browse online and help you choose some great pieces. Although you may really love that favorite dress of yours, the pattern might be too busy for photos. Or maybe that dress shirt has a pattern that’s just too small and will look distorted in photographs. It’s a joy to be more than just your family photographer, but to help you plan for your session too!
There’s a few good tips I like to give for photos such as: texture always is a great choice! Fabrics like linen, double gauze, or even any cotton with some texture to it helps to add more depth to photos. Lighter colors generally photograph better than dark. And it’s best to save your running shoes for your workout at the gym, not your family photos! 😉 (but you knew that one already, right?)
With all that said, i’m going to start providing a seasonal roundup of some fun pieces i’ve found that will photograph beautifully! These can be mixed and matched together, or even just chosen for those one’s in your family that don’t already have something in their closet.
Whether you’re a client who has a session scheduled with me, or another photographer i’d love for you to be able to use this resource to make your photos as beautiful as possible!
